The Same Problem in a Different Setting

“The problems were recognizable,” Justin Fulcher said. “What I’d spent years working on at RingMD, outdated processes, the gap between what technology could deliver and what legacy systems would allow, those weren’t healthcare problems. They were organizational problems that happened to manifest in healthcare.” When he looked at the VA and the Defense Department, he said, he saw the same structure repeating: real capability constrained by processes that had not kept pace with what was possible.

Fulcher credits his years running a company across regulated environments with teaching him to recognize that pattern quickly, wherever it appears. He said the ability to see through an institution’s surface complexity to the underlying process problem took years of building RingMD to develop, and it transferred almost directly once he began working inside federal agencies.

An Obligation, Not Just an Option

He also describes the move in terms that go beyond professional interest. “I believed I could contribute something useful, and I think public service at a meaningful level is an obligation, not just an option, for people who have the experience and the opportunity to do it,” he said.
